3306d717ef feat(css): add CSS utility classes to the ionic theme bundle to match other themes (#29974)
The default (iOS/MD) bundle is removed from the tests for the `ionic` theme because it adds global component styles that the `ionic` theme does not need. The missing utility files are imported, and padding/margin classes are generated from the design tokens, as many tests rely on `ion-padding` and `ion-text-center` being available. This change ensures the `ionic` theme includes the same classes offered in our documentation: https://ionicframework.com/docs/layout/css-utilities.

a5a7bee25c feat(tokens): update tokens architecture and usage (#29950)
Issue number: internal

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Removed old tokens stored on foundations folder. Now the jsons with
the tokens come from the new dependency:
https://github.com/OutSystems/outsystems-design-tokens.
- The tokens from UX Team completely changed the structure and in some
cases the values. Everything was replaced on the project to use the new
tokens.
- Snapshots updated and differences reviewed with UX Team. A fix was
done on the testing css, to make sure the correct _Inter_ font-family
was actually used. This resulted in some differences on the text for
some componentes, that had snapshots with the native fonts.
- Removed generation of scss file on tokens script, that contained the
:root selector with the custom CSS properties, as they were not used on
the Ionic context.
- Removed generation of html file with tokens preview, as there wasn't a
great value on this (we have storybook on other contexts) and it allowed
to reduce a lot of code and complexity from the tokens script.
- The token command was adapted to use the command available from the
https://github.com/OutSystems/outsystems-design-tokens package, using
the `--config` prop, where we pass the path to our Ionic token script,
where we generate the needed scss variables and utility-classes (by
default the tokens repo tries to be as agnostic as possible, and only
generates the css variables, without the prefix and added details we
need on the Ionic side).
- Removed the token command from the npm run build, as it unnecessarily
added time on that command to run. Besides, it should not be common that
we need to run this command in the future.
- Updated reference to latest version of [Style Dictionary
4.1.3](https://v4.styledictionary.com/version-4/statement/). Version 4
comes with a lot of improvements, but also breaking-changes, so it was
needed to adapt the tokens script. The code on the script is also now
cleaner.
- Changed prefix from ionic to ion. The term ionic was used initially,
to help differentiate from the old ios/md stuff, but I feel with the
current scss architecture, that is no longer needed, and we can use the
same prefix across themes.

This requires to run `npm install ` again.

0332c8c6ce feat(toggle): display as block when justify or alignment properties are defined (#29802)
- Change the toggle's `display` property to `block` when the `justify` or `alignment` property is set.
- Set the default `justify-content` style to `space-between` so that a toggle with `width: 100%` set without `justify` or `alignment` set will still have the same default
- Set the default `align-items` style to `center` so that a toggle with `width: 100%` and `label-placement="stacked"` set without `justify` or `alignment` set will still have the same default
- Modifies the `label` e2e test to remove the explicit width as setting the property will make them full-width
- Adds two examples to the `label` e2e test of labels that do not have `justify` set but use `width: 100%` to ensure they are working as expected without it
- Adds one example to the `label` e2e test of a long label that uses `justify` to ensure it still wraps properly

aded437923 fix(colors): change ionic colors scss imports for ionic dist (#29791)
Issue number: internal

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->
When consuming the Ionic Framework and using the Ionic Theme, the color
attribute was still not working as the color css was not present.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Now the ion-color maps are correctly imported on the Ionic `dist`
related folder and not the on the `md/ios` ones.
- Changed the usage of `map.get` to `map-get` to avoid issues with the
usage of `@use` and `@forward`. This seems to have no impact on the
compilation and I believe its a better code convention, as map-gets are
a native scss function that doesn't need to be imported.

c63d07bdd0 fix(many): do not grow slotted checkboxes, radios, selects and toggles (#29501)
Issue number: resolves #29423

---------

## What is the current behavior?
I fixed a bug where icon was collapsing its width when next to a
checkbox, radio or toggle to match the styles of select in
https://github.com/ionic-team/ionic-framework/pull/29328. This caused a
regression for checkboxes, radios, and toggles when slotted inside of an
item. Our test coverage for this was not great, as the slotted inputs
test in item had so many elements that it was not apparent that this bug
was introduced. In addition, the select itself presented the same issue
before my PR and this is a regression from the v7 behavior. See the
following Codepens to see the regression:

- [Ionic v7](https://codepen.io/brandyscarney/pen/jOoPzoL)
- [Ionic v8](https://codepen.io/brandyscarney/pen/KKLpoLX)

## What is the new behavior?
- Updates the checkbox, radio, select, and toggle to reset the flex
property when slotted.
- Adds test coverage for the previous fix I did in
https://github.com/ionic-team/ionic-framework/pull/29328 where icons
were collapsing their width next to checkboxes, radios and toggles. This
was reproducible with a div and easier to see in a test so I used a div
with a background instead of an icon.
- Adds better test coverage for this fix which separates each component
(checkbox, radio, select, toggle) into their own screenshot test to make
sure the width is shrinking or expanding properly based on where it is
located in an item.

5eb94130fa chore(tests): remove old screenshots without a test (#29472)
Issue number: internal

---------

## What is the current behavior?
Several screenshot images were not removed when their e2e test was.

## What is the new behavior?
I ran the following command in `ionic-framework/core` to find all

6e8bf4914f chore(theming): remove Sass default flags (#29401)
Issue number: N/A

---------

## What is the current behavior?
Currently, every Sass variable in Ionic has the `!default` flag added to
the end.

From the [Sass variables
documentation](https://sass-lang.com/documentation/variables/):

> Normally when you assign a value to a variable, if that variable
already had a value, its old value is overwritten. But if you’re writing
a Sass library, you might want to allow your users to configure your
library’s variables before you use them to generate CSS.
>
> To make this possible, Sass provides the `!default` flag. This assigns
a value to a variable only if that variable isn’t defined or its value
is [null](https://sass-lang.com/documentation/values/null). Otherwise,
the existing value will be used.

In past versions of Ionic Framework, developers wrote Sass variables to
rebuild Ionic Framework using their own values. In the latest versions
of Ionic Framework, this is not possible.

## What is the new behavior?
Removes the `!default` flag from all Sass variables.

## Does this introduce a breaking change?

1e757513ce feat(ionic-theme): improve scss architecture for ionic theme (#29345)
Issue number: None

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

This PR follows the architectural changes defined on the _SCSS
Architecture Design Doc_. Due to some of the developments done in the
meantime, not everything that was defined on that document was followed
and some sections were simplified.

Overall, there were two guidelines that supported the work on this PR:
- Have no impact on the current scss partials & CSS architecture for the
`md/iOS` themes.
- Make everything related to the new `Ionic` Theme separated.

Based on these, here're the changes made:

**On Themes folder (private):**
- Renamed current internal scss partials on src/themes, related to
md/iOS, to `native.*.scss` and move them to a new folder, called
`native`. Updated imports on all framework.
- Removed the ionic prefix from the name of the mixins and function
partials on src/themes. Updated imports on all framework.
- Created new folder, named ionic, inside src/themes. This holds the
`ionic.globals.scss`, with all the mixins and functions forwarded, to be
used on other scopes.
- Replaced on already created Ionic theme files, the usage of tokens and
mixins with @use, to instead _@use
"../../themes/ionic/ionic.globals.scss" as globals;_. This ensures an
equal approach is followed everywhere and also makes it easier to change
the files imported or paths, in the future, as its all in the same
global file.
- Updated the foundations `readMe` file, with the new process for using
globals.

![themes](https://github.com/ionic-team/ionic-framework/assets/32780808/1455523c-3ccd-4310-a974-522f9f8ade02)

**On css folder (public):**
- Created new folder, named `ionic`, inside src/css. This holds all the
files related exclusively to Ionic Theme, following the same structure
as exists now for md/iOS, with a core, a bundle, utils, etc. Some files
were a bit duplicated, to eliminate imports from ios or md theme
partials. The only file common to both Themes is the `normalize.scss`.
- No folder structure or renamings were done on the existing output, to
prevent breaking-changes for developers already making imports from this
folder.
- Updated typography and link partials to use globals instead of tokens.
- Changed `font-size` styles on typography to be on `body`, instead of
`html`, to enable correct support of accessibility features on browsers
and devices, related to `font-size`.

![css](https://github.com/ionic-team/ionic-framework/assets/32780808/10bedddc-23c1-4c50-a4e4-77fb7f6c6430)

**Other changes related to global styles new architecture:**
- Updated margin & padding utility-classed generated by token, to
include css variables and padding/margin mixins.
- Updated link test to use new global Ionic bundle, correct
utility-class on ion-content and updated snapshots. The font-size
changed to 16, as its now the default on the body.
- Updated typography snapshots.
- Updated prettier format on all scss files. Later on we should make
sure this is equal for all team members.

6b13e1323f test: remove hardcoded dark palette from tests (#29357)
Issue number: N/A

---------

## What is the current behavior?
Dark palette is hardcoded in style tags in tests.

## What is the new behavior?

Updated the following tests:
- **datetime/basic** - added an import for `dark.class.css` which works
with the checkbox to toggle the `ion-palette-dark` class
- does not update the e2e test to include dark palette because this was
not tested previously
- **datetime/color** - added an import for `dark.class.css` which works
with the checkbox to toggle the `ion-palette-dark` class
    - updates the e2e test to use the dark palette
- **modal/dark-mode** - added an import for `dark.always.css` which
always applies the dark palette
- does not update the e2e test to include dark palette because this test
needs to be moved but I am not sure where it should go yet
- **toggle/enable-on-off-labels** - added an import for `dark.class.css`
which works with the checkbox to toggle the `ion-palette-dark` class
- updates the e2e test to use the dark palette & splits the color into a
separate screenshot test

Did not update the following tests:
- **item/buttons** - has already been updated to remove the dark palette
- **toggle/legacy/enable-on-off-labels** - test was removed in v8

## Does this introduce a breaking change?

- [ ] Yes
- [x] No

## Other information

- We could probably remove the checkbox toggles entirely when we add
support for the `palette` query param.

Issue number: resolves #29319

## What is the current behavior?
Icons (not slotted) alongside a checkbox, toggle, or radio in an item
using the modern syntax cause the icon to shrink in width.

## What is the new behavior?
Allow the checkbox, toggle, and radio to shrink to accommodate the icon.
This matches the select behavior:

284eb8ecaf feat: add ionic theme architecture (#29132)

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

Adds the base architecture to add a new theme configuration to Ionic
Framework components.
- Components can now specify an additional stylesheet for the `ionic`
theme.
- Developers can specify the `theme` and `mode` independently to control
look and feel of a component.

Test infrastructure has been updated to add support for testing the
theme configuration with Playwright.
- Existing `themes` test configuration has been renamed to `palettes`

This PR is just the initial effort to decouple Ionic's architecture to
separate look and feel and allow our dev team to start introducing the
new component appearance to the UI. There will be additional changes
required to completely add support for the Ionic theme. These changes
are targeted against the `next` branch and are not expected to be used
in a production environment at this time.

<summary>microsoft/playwright (@&#8203;playwright/test)</summary>

###

[Compare
Source](https://togithub.com/microsoft/playwright/compare/v1.41.2...v1.42.0)

#### New APIs

-   **Test tags**

[New tag syntax](https://playwright.dev/docs/test-annotations#tag-tests)
for adding tags to the tests (@&#8203;-tokens in the test title are
still supported).

    ```js
test('test customer login', { tag: ['@&#8203;fast', '@&#8203;login'] },
async ({ page }) => {
      // ...
    });
    ```

Use `--grep` command line option to run only tests with certain tags.

    ```sh
    npx playwright test --grep @&#8203;fast
    ```

-   **Annotating skipped tests**

[New annotation
syntax](https://playwright.dev/docs/test-annotations#annotate-tests) for
test annotations allows annotating the tests that do not run.

    ```js
    test('test full report', {
      annotation: [
{ type: 'issue', description:
'https://github.com/microsoft/playwright/issues/23180' },
{ type: 'docs', description:
'https://playwright.dev/docs/test-annotations#tag-tests' },
      ],
    }, async ({ page }) => {
      // ...
    });
    ```

-   **page.addLocatorHandler()**

New method
[page.addLocatorHandler()](https://playwright.dev/docs/api/class-page#page-add-locator-handler)
registers a callback that will be invoked when specified element becomes
visible and may block Playwright actions. The callback can get rid of
the overlay. Here is an example that closes a cookie dialog when it
appears.

    ```js
    // Setup the handler.
    await page.addLocatorHandler(
page.getByRole('heading', { name: 'Hej! You are in control of your
cookies.' }),
        async () => {
await page.getByRole('button', { name: 'Accept all' }).click();
        });
    // Write the test as usual.
    await page.goto('https://www.ikea.com/');
await page.getByRole('link', { name: 'Collection of blue and white'
}).click();
await expect(page.getByRole('heading', { name: 'Light and easy'
})).toBeVisible();
    ```

-   **Project wildcard filter**
Playwright command line
[flag](https://playwright.dev/docs/test-cli#reference) now supports '\*'
wildcard when filtering by project.

    ```sh
    npx playwright test --project='*mobile*'
    ```

-   **Other APIs**
    -   expect(callback).toPass({ timeout })
The timeout can now be configured by `expect.toPass.timeout` option
[globally](https://playwright.dev/docs/api/class-testconfig#test-config-expect)
or in [project
config](https://playwright.dev/docs/api/class-testproject#test-project-expect)

    -   electronApplication.on('console')

[electronApplication.on('console')](https://playwright.dev/docs/api/class-electronapplication#electron-application-event-console)
event is emitted when Electron main process calls console API methods.

        ```js
        electronApp.on('console', async msg => {
          const values = [];
          for (const arg of msg.args())
            values.push(await arg.jsonValue());
          console.log(...values);
        });
await electronApp.evaluate(() => console.log('hello', 5, { foo: 'bar'
}));
        ```

- [page.pdf()](https://playwright.dev/docs/api/class-page#page-pdf)
accepts two new options
[`tagged`](https://playwright.dev/docs/api/class-page#page-pdf-option-tagged)
and
[`outline`](https://playwright.dev/docs/api/class-page#page-pdf-option-outline).

#### Breaking changes

Mixing the test instances in the same suite is no longer supported.
Allowing it was an oversight as it makes reasoning about the semantics
unnecessarily hard.

```js
const test = baseTest.extend({ item: async ({}, use) => {} });
baseTest.describe('Admin user', () => {
  test('1', async ({ page, item }) => {});
  test('2', async ({ page, item }) => {});
});
```

#### Announcements

- ⚠️ Ubuntu 18 is not supported anymore.

#### Browser Versions

-   Chromium 123.0.6312.4
-   Mozilla Firefox 123.0
-   WebKit 17.4

This version was also tested against the following stable channels:

-   Google Chrome 122
-   Microsoft Edge 123

c72ecedc09 refactor(toggle): remove legacy property and support for legacy syntax (#29037)
BREAKING CHANGE:

The `legacy` property and support for the legacy syntax, which involved placing an `ion-toggle` inside of an `ion-item` with an `ion-label`, have been removed from toggle. For more information on migrating from the legacy toggle syntax, refer to the [Toggle documentation](https://ionicframework.com/docs/api/toggle#migrating-from-legacy-toggle-syntax).

bf34e0e247 test: migrate form control usages to modern syntax (#28897)
Issue number: Internal

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

Several tests were still using the legacy form syntax.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Migrated tests in `core`, `angular`, and `vue` to use the modern form
syntax (`react` did not have form controls).

I opted not to migrate `item/test/highlight` and `item/test/counter`
because those tests are going to be removed in the future once the
deprecate item APIs are removed.

749df5bdce fix(toggle): set switch icon color correctly (#28812)
Issue number: None

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->
Similar to #28809, in my work for FW-5822, I found that I had unexpected
screenshot diffs. `--ion-color-dark` was not defined in our test
infrastructure, and this toggle icon was therefore displaying in the
wrong color in the tests.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Toggle has the correct icon color even when the --ion-color-dark token
is not defined

## Does this introduce a breaking change?

- [ ] Yes
- [x] No

Introduces style changes if the token is undefined, but it should always
be defined in real-world uses.

4f1b4cdc29 chore(core): type checking for unit tests (#28529)
Issue number: N/A

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

Type checking inside of the Stencil unit tests have been disabled for a
long time. This has resulted in a difficult developer experience and
numerous issues (both types and implementation) within our unit tests.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Type checking is now enabled for all Stencil unit tests
- Tests have been updated to resolve type errors and implementation
errors
- Many `as any` casts were introduced, as many legacy tests test invalid
configurations of functions that require it (for example passing
`undefined` to an argument that cannot be `undefined`).

## Does this introduce a breaking change?

To test this PR you can checkout the branch locally. Install
dependencies in the `/core` directory to make sure you are on at least
`@stencil/core@4.7.2`.

Opening either a `.spec.ts` or `.spec.tsx` file, validate that your IDE
detects types and can provide auto completions for jest global types.

If you desire, you can provide an invalid type and try building the
project - you will observe the build will fail due to the invalid type.

The original scope of this ticket was for checkbox only, but many other
components had unused sass variables, so I decided to tackle everything
all at once.

Since these variables are not used anywhere:

1. The build should pass
2. There should be no screenshot diffs

6438e3e919 fix(item): wrap elements and label contents when the font size increases or the elements do not fit (#28146)
1) Wraps the label text and other content in an item when there is not enough room for everything to fit, instead of truncating the label with an ellipsis. Does not apply to items containing legacy inputs.
2) Passes the legacy property up to item from checkbox, input, radio, range, select, textarea and toggle. Item adds classes for all of these and does not wrap its contents if that class exists. If a developer is using a legacy input without the legacy property on it then they will need to add the legacy property to prevent the wrapping.
3) If a developer does not want the text to wrap for labels in modern items, the `ion-text-nowrap` class can be added to the label.
