808c60c235 chore(deps): update stencil core (#30132)
We have shipped various of improvements to the Stencil project and
runtime. You can take a close look at our
[changelog](https://github.com/ionic-team/stencil/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md)
but since `v4.20.0` we mainly shipped improvements on the following
issues:

## Major Improvements:

- Enhanced Shadow DOM and hydration support
  - Improved client-side hydration for SSR
  - Better handling of shadow root styles and component hydration
  - More reliable serialization of Shadow DOM components

## Key Bug Fixes:

- Resolved performance issues due to detached nodes in memory
- Fixed several critical issues with scoped slots and component styling
- Improved handling of SVG class attributes and template tags
- Enhanced runtime decorator functionality
- Better handling of form-associated callbacks

## Technical Updates:

- Updated to TypeScript 5.5
- Added support for customizable Mermaid diagram colors in documentation

I don't see any critical changes that may impact Ionic users and feel
confident we can ship this.

## Dev Build

eb725fce6e fix(vue): update Stencil Vue output target (#30159)
This patch includes some necessary updates for
`@stencil/vue-output-target@v0.9.0`:

- we started to export Stencils helpers as runtime via
`@stencil/vue-output-target/runtime` similar to what we did in React
- this version requires some updates to Vue and TypeScript as well
- adjustments related to that update

4640e046eb feat(angular): setting props on a signal works (#29453)
Issue number: resolves #28876

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

When assigning `componentProps` as inputs to an Angular component, we do
`Object.assign`. When using the newer Angular Signals API for inputs the
value of an input is a function:

```js
myInput = input<string>('foo') // this is a function
```

The developer accesses the value of `myInput` in a template by doing
`myInput()` since `myInput` is a function.

If a developer passes `componentProps: { myInput: 'bar' }` then the
value of `myInput` is set to this string value, overriding the function.
As a result, calling `myInput()` results in an error because `myInput`
is a string not a function.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Angular 14.1 introduced `setInput` which lets us hand off setting
inputs to Angular. This will set input values properly even when using a
Signals-based input.

## Does this introduce a breaking change?

As part of this `NavParams` has been deprecated as it is incompatible
with the `setInput` API. The old `Object.assign` worked to allow devs to
get all of the `componentProp` key value pairs via `NavParams` even if
they are not defined as `Inputs`. Using `setInput` will now throw an
error, so developers need to create an `@Input` for each parameter. This
means that `NavParams` has no purpose and can safely be retired in favor
of Angular's Input API. Not removing NavParms would make it difficult
for us to support new Angular APIs such as this Signals-based input API.

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

When given a password input it is hard to know what users are typing as
the contents of the input are obscured. As a result, it is a common
pattern to have a button that lets users temporarily toggle the
visibility of the password so they can correct any mistakes. Ionic
currently has the infrastructure for developers to implement this on
their own, but this use case is so common that the team thinks it is
worth having this functionality built-in to Ionic.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by

- Introduces the `ion-input-password-toggle` component. This component
is a button that toggles the visibility of the text in the input it is

Note: The work to do this was done a while ago, but this branch was
never merged into `feature-8.0`. The breaking change was already noted
in the breaking change guide, so this is not an additional breaking
change on top of what was already specified.

a0a77f799d feat(searchbar): autocapitalize, dir, lang, maxlength, and minlength are inherited to native input (#29098)
Issue number: resolves #27606

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

Certain attributes are not be inherited to the inner searchbar.
Developers need control over these attributes to provide important
context to users for things like language and text direction.
Additionally, being able to control things like autocapitalize,
maxlength, and minlength can help improve the user experience by a)
guiding what should be entered into an input and b) removing
autocapitalize where it's not appropriate.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Added autocapitalize, maxlength, and minlength properties
- lang and dir are global attributes, so adding them as properties will
cause issues. However, developers can still set them as attributes and
they will be inherited to the native `input` element. We also watch them
so any changes to the attributes are also inherited to the native
`input`.

308f396389 refactor(angular): apply range to numeric value accessor (#29029)
Issue number: Internal

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

The ticket describes renaming `TextValueAccessorDirective` since
`ion-range` is not a text-based control, however I think this was an
incorrect assumption made during the original implementation.

`ion-range` is a numeric based value accessor (either as a single number
or an object accepting a numeric start/end value).

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by

- Migrates the usage of `ion-range` value accessor implementation to the
`NumericValueAccessorDirective`
- Adds tests for validating the value accessor is functioning as
expected

6bd446f681 refactor(select): remove legacy property and support for legacy syntax (#29024)
Issue number: internal

---------

## What is the current behavior?

In Ionic Framework v7, we [simplified the select
syntax](https://ionic.io/blog/ionic-7-is-here#simplified-form-control-syntax)
so that it was no longer required to be placed inside of an `ion-item`.
We maintained backwards compatibility by adding a `legacy` property
which allowed it to continue to be styled properly when written in the
following way:

```html
<ion-item>
  <ion-label>Label</ion-label>
  <ion-select></ion-select>
</ion-item>
```

While this was supported in v7, console warnings were logged to notify
developers that they needed to update this syntax for the best
accessibility experience.

## What is the new behavior?

- Removes the `legacy` property and support for the legacy syntax.
Developers should follow the [migration
guide](https://ionicframework.com/docs/api/select#migrating-from-legacy-select-syntax)
in the select documentation to update their apps. The new syntax
requires a `label` or `aria-label` on `ion-select`:
    ```html
    <ion-item>
      <ion-select label="Label"></ion-select>
    </ion-item>
    ```
- Removes the legacy tests under under `select/test/legacy/` and all
related screenshots
- Removes the select usage from `item/test/disabled`,
`item/test/legacy/alignment`, and `item/test/legacy/disabled` and all
related screenshots if the test was removed

## Does this introduce a breaking change?

The `ion-input` component currently specifies a `size` attribute to
align with the HTML `input` implementation. However, Ionic's custom

the `size` attribute:

The `size` attribute has been removed from `ion-input`. As it was not
compatible before, this is likely to have a minimal impact to
developers. If your application is using the `size` attribute, replace
the usage with CSS styling to control the width of the `ion-input`.

77a0640e92 perf(angular): views are not moved on mount (#28544)
Issue number: resolves #28534

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

Page views in Ionic need to be rendered as a child of
`ion-router-outlet` in order for page transitions and swipe to go back
to function correctly. However, Angular always inserts components as
siblings of the insertion point. Previously, the insertion point was
`ion-router-outlet` (the host element). This meant that page views were
mounted as siblings of `ion-router-outlet`. We then added code to move
the component inside of `ion-router-outlet`.

This caused two issues:

1. A DOM tree mismatch during hydration (the linked issue) because
hydration is expecting the page view to be a sibling of the router
outlet, but Ionic moves the view around in the DOM.
2. A performance issue where all components effectively have
`connectedCallback` fired twice. This callback runs when the component
is added to the DOM. On initial mount, `connectedCallback` for each
component runs. Once the page view is moved, the elements are removed
from the DOM (thus causing `disconnectedCallback` to run), and then
added to the correct location in the DOM which causes
`connectedCallback` to run again.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- IonRouterOutlet now renders a `ng-container`. This appears as a
comment in the DOM inside of `ion-router-outlet`. This comment is used
as the injection point for adding new views. The new views are added as
siblings of the comment, but since the comment is inside of
`ion-router-outlet` then the views themselves are inside of
`ion-router-outlet` too.

## Does this introduce a breaking change?

- [ ] Yes
- [x] No

This doesn't cause any known breaking changes. However, the placement of
views is pretty critical to the functionality of Ionic, so I wanted to
ship this in a major release so we have a solid public testing period
before the code is considered stable.

We already have test coverage that verifies page views are mounted in
the correct order, so I did not add more tests for this.

Note: The Angular SSR package does not support Web Components. As a
result, there are other errors you will encounter. However, I still
think it's worth fixing this issue a) in the event that the Angular SSR
package adds support for Web Components and b) to get the performance
gain of not having to re-mount components.

7ce1031c17 fix(refresher): mode property can be used in typescript (#28717)

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

All components that have per-mode stylesheets can have their mode
adjusted by setting `mode` on the component. We use the `setMode`
function to determine which mode to use on the component:
516b84475e/core/src/global/ionic-global.ts (L75)

While this works on refresher, it is missing the `virtualProp` jsdoc
comment which causes it to not have the appropriate type information. As
a result, when developers try to use a JS binding for `mode`, they will
get compilation errors.

## What is the new behavior?

I am considering this a bug fix instead of a feature. In non-TypeScript
environments you can set `mode` on `ion-refresher` and it does change
the mode. What's missing here is the type information associated with
it.

cd5c099dd3 feat(picker): add inline picker (#28689)
Issue number: resolves #24905, resolves #26840, resolves #15710

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

The current picker is only displayed as an overlay which makes it
impossible to use inline with the rest of the application. Additionally,
there are several bugs and missing features. For example, it is
impossible to know when the value of the picker column has changed using
public APIs. This is valuable for updating other columns in response to
that data.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Introduces `ion-picker` as an inline wheel picker component. The
overlay picker is still available using `ion-picker-legacy`.
- The implementation of this component resolves linked bugs. It also
resolves linked features by exposing an `ionChange` event for developers
to listen for.

c07312e5ed fix(angular): ng add @ionic/angular in standalone projects (#28523)
Issue number: Resolves #28514

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
<!-- Please describe the current behavior that you are modifying. -->

When using the `@ionic/angular` schematic in an Angular 17 project (`ng
add @ionic/angular`), developers will receive an error preventing the
schematic from running.

Additionally, the previous implementations of the schematic are out of
sync with the current state of the Ionic starters:
- `variables.css` is empty and missing Ionic's defaults
- `ionic.config.json` is not created
- Schematic does not have support for module vs. standalone projects.

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- `ng add @ionic/angular` works with Angular 17 projects
- `ng add @ionic/angular` has fallback behavior for Angular 16 projects
using `AppModule`
- Schematics now includes the proper `variables.css` from Ionic starters
- Ionicons assets will no longer be copied when being added to a
standalone project
- Refactors a majority of the implementation to use the utilities that
come directly from `@angular-devkit/schematics` and
`@schematics/angular`.
- Sets the `@ionic/angular-toolkit` CLI configuration and schematics
configuration in the `angular.json`
- Creates missing `ionic.config.json`

1. Install Angular CLI v17 - `npm install -g @angular/cli@17`
2. Create a new project - `ng new angular-17`
3. Use the dev-build: - `ng add
@ionic/angular@7.5.5-dev.11700239837.1925bbdb`
4. Confirm the prompts
5. Validate that `provideIonicAngular({})` is added to the
`app.config.ts`
6. Validate that `ionic.config.json` was created
7. Validate that `angular.json` was updated with the
`@ionic/angular-devkit` configurations

Now verify legacy behavior:

1. Install Angular CLI v16 - `npm install -g @angular/cli@16`
2. Create a new project - `ng new angular-16`
3. Use the dev-build - `ng add
@ionic/angular@7.5.5-dev.11700239837.1925bbdb`
4. Confirm the prompts
5. Validate that `IonicModule.forRoot({})` is added to the
`app.module.ts`
8. Validate the ionicons glob pattern is added to the `angular.json`
9. Validate the `ionic.config.json` was created
10. Validate the `angular.json` was updated with the
`@ionic/angular-devkit` configurations

adb01e2516 refactor(angular): loading controller uses correct core instance (#28543)
Issue number: Internal

---------

<!-- Please do not submit updates to dependencies unless it fixes an
issue. -->

<!-- Please try to limit your pull request to one type (bugfix, feature,
etc). Submit multiple pull requests if needed. -->

## What is the current behavior?
As a takeaway from our learning session about a menuController bug in
Ionic Angular, the team would like to update our other providers to use
the same architecture as the menuController to prevent this kind of
issue from happening again in the future.

We also noticed that the common provider does not provide much value and
it's easier to just have two separate implementations in `src` and
`standalone`. (There wasn't much code we could de-duplicate)

## What is the new behavior?
<!-- Please describe the behavior or changes that are being added by
this PR. -->

- Removed the common loading provider in favor of separate ones in
src/standalone
