325fac504a gdb: Use std::min and std::max throughout 
Otherwise including <string> or some other C++ header is broken.

9b790ce722 Add gdbarch callback to provide formats for debug info float types 
At this point, all TYPE_CODE_FLT types carry their floating-point format,
except for those creating from reading DWARF or stabs debug info.  Those
will be addressed by this commit.

The main issue here is that we actually have to determine which floating-
point format to use.  Currently, we only have the type length as input
to this decision.  In the future, we may hopefully get --at least in
DWARF-- additional information to help disambiguate multiple different
formats of the same length.  For now, we can still look at the type name
as a hint.

This decision logic is encapsulated in a gdbarch callback to allow
platform-specific overrides.  The default implementation use the same
logic (compare type length against the various gdbarch_..._bit sizes)
that is currently implemented in floatformat_from_length.

With this commit, all platforms still use the default logic, so there
should be no actual change in behavior.  A follow-on commit will add
support for __float128 on Intel and Power.

Once dwarf2read.c and stabsread.c make use of the new callback to
determine floating-point formats, we're now sure every TYPE_CODE_FLT
type will always carry its format.  The commit therefore adds asserts
to verify_floatformat to ensure new code will continue to always
provide formats, and removes the code in floatformat_from_type that
used to handle types with a NULL TYPE_FLOATFORMAT.

d7a87b5e43 Fix floating conversion buffer overrun when host/target format matches 
Running the testsuite with a gdb configured with --enable-libmcheck
reveals a problem:

Even though this shows up with Ada and D, it's easy to reproduce in C
too.  We just need to print a long double, when the current arch is
32-bit, which is the default when gdb starts up:

Even if the target and host floating-point formats match, the length
of the types might still be different.  On x86, long double is the
80-bit extended precision type on both 32-bit and 64-bit ABIs, but by
default it is stored as 12 bytes on 32-bit, and 16 bytes on 64-bit,
for alignment reasons.  Several places in doublest.c already consider
this, but floatformat_to_doublest and floatformat_from_doublest miss
it.  E.g., convert_typed_floating and store_typed_floating,

Tested on x86-64 Fedora 23 with --enable-libmcheck, where it fixes the
crashed above.

b79497cb1c Assert that a floating type's length is at least as long as its format 
This would have caught the HP/PA bug fixed in the previous patch:

 .../src/gdb/gdbtypes.c:4690: internal-error: arch_float_type: Assertion `len >= floatformat_totalsize_bytes (floatformats[0])' failed.
 A problem internal to GDB has been detected,
 further debugging may prove unreliable.

Tested on x86-64 Fedora 23, --enable-targets=all.

9a3c826307 Add some more casts (1/2) 
Note: I needed to split this patch in two, otherwise it's too big for
the mailing list.

This patch adds explicit casts to situations where a void pointer is
assigned to a pointer to the "real" type.  Building in C++ mode requires
those assignments to use an explicit cast.  This includes, for example:

 - callback arguments (cleanups, comparison functions, ...)
 - data attached to some object (objfile, program space, etc) in the form
   of a void pointer
 - "user data" passed to some function

This patch comes from the commit "(mostly) auto-generated patch to insert
casts needed for C++", taken from Pedro's C++ branch.

Only files built on x86 with --enable-targets=all are modified, so the
native files for other arches will need to be dealt with separately.

I built-tested this with --enable-targets=all and reg-tested.  To my
surprise, a test case (selftest.exp) had to be adjusted.

Here's the ChangeLog entry.  Again, this was relatively quick to make
despite the length, thanks to David Malcom's script, although I don't
believe it's very useful information in that particular case...

Most modern systems have frexpl and gnulib provides an implementation
for those that don't, so use it instead of the generic but inaccurate
ldfrexp.

3256027470 off-by-one max exponent computation in convert_doublest_to_floatformat 
Assuming the following variable definition:

    long double inp = 2.0;

On platforms where "long double" is a double precision IEEE flaoting
point, GDB currently behaves as follow:

    (gdb) set variable inp = 1.6e+308l
    (gdb) p inp
    $2 = inf   <<<<---- !!!!

Instead, the value of "inp" should be printed as:

    (gdb) p inp
    $1 = 1.6e+308

The problem is due to a small error in the comparison of the exponent
versus the maximum value this exponent can take, causing us to think
that the value was too big to fit. But it isn't.

33d7655bb2 convert_doublest_to_floatformat: handle off-range values. 
On x86_64-linux targetting AVR, we see the following issues:

    (gdb) print 1.6e+308
    $1 = 0.89002949
    (gdb) print 1.6e-308
    $3 = 2.87630892

What happens is that GDB is trying to convert the value it read
(as a host "long double") into a target "double" value. The routine
performing the conversion does not realize that 1.6e+308 is just
too large to fit in a double. Similarly, it does not notice that
1.6e-308 is too small to be represented.

This patch enhances convert_doublest_to_floatformat to both handle
floats that are too small and too large.

gdb/ChangeLog:

        * doublest.c (convert_doublest_to_floatformat): If the exponent
        is too small, treat the value as zero.  If the exponent is too
        large, treat the value as infinity.

fcab3fb53b * doublest.c (FLOATFORMAT_LARGEST_BYTES): New define. 
(get_field, put_field): Assert that the format is one we can handle.
Simplify logic accordingly.
(floatformat_normalize_byteorder): New function.
(convert_floatformat_to_doublest): Use floatformat_normalize_byteorder
to normalize and select modified byte order. Pass modified byte order
to get_field.
(floatformat_is_negative, floatformat_is_nan, floatformat_mantissa):
Likewise.
(convert_doublest_to_floatformat): Select an appropriate intermediate
byte order if necessary.  Always convert to the final format before
returning.
