d87bef3a7b Update year range in copyright notice of binutils files 
The newer update-copyright.py fixes file encoding too, removing cr/lf
on binutils/bfdtest2.c and ld/testsuite/ld-cygwin/exe-export.exp, and
embedded cr in binutils/testsuite/binutils-all/ar.exp string match.

eb6dce11fc gas: tc-tic54x.c hash tables 
Cleaning up the subsym_hash memory is a real pain.  Keys and values
entered into the table are quite diverse.  In some cases the key is
allocated and thus needs to be freed, in others the key is a const
string.  Values are similar, and in some cases not even a string.
Tidy this by inserting a new subsym_ent_t that describes key/value
type.  This meant the math_hash table was no longer needed.  The patch
also tidies how math functions are called, those that are supposed to
return int now no longer return their value in a float.

	* config/tc-tic54x.c (math_hash): Delete.
	(subsym_proc_entry): Move earlier, make proc a union, merge with..
	(math_proc_entry): ..this.  Delete type.
	(math_procs): Merge into subsym_procs.
	(subsym_ent_t): New.  Use this type in subsym_hash..
	(stag_add_field_symbols, tic54x_var, tic54x_macro_info): ..here..
	(md_begin, subsym_create_or_replace, subsym_lookup): ..and here..
	(subsym_substitute): ..and here.  Adjust subsym_proc_entry
	function calls.  Free replacement when not returned.
	(subsym_get_arg): Adjust subsym_lookup.
	(free_subsym_ent, subsym_htab_create ): New functions, use when
	creating subsym_hash.
	(free_local_label_ent, local_label_htab_create): Similarly.
	(tic54x_remove_local_label): Delete.
	(tic54x_clear_local_labels): Simplify.
	(tic54x_asg): Use notes obstack to dup strings.
	(tic54x_eval): Likewise.

7e6d6b62d8 gas: fold do_repeat{,_with_expander}() 
do_repeat_with_expander() already deals with the "no expander" case
quite fine, so there's really little point having two functions. What it
lacks compared with do_repeat() is a call to sb_build(), which can
simply be moved (and the then redundant sb_new() be avoided). Along with
this moving also flip if the main if()'s condition such that the "no
expander" case is handled first.

c39e89c3aa gas: drop .appfile and .appline 
These were used originally to represent "# <line> <file>" constructs
inserted by (typically) compilers when pre-processing. Quite some time
ago they were replaced by .linefile though. Since the original
directives were never documented, we ought to be able to remove support
for them. As a result in a number of case function parameter aren't used
anymore and can hence be dropped.

a2c5833233 Update year range in copyright notice of binutils files 
The result of running etc/update-copyright.py --this-year, fixing all
the files whose mode is changed by the script, plus a build with
--enable-maintainer-mode --enable-cgen-maint=yes, then checking
out */po/*.pot which we don't update frequently.

The copy of cgen was with commit d1dd5fcc38ead reverted as that commit
breaks building of bfp opcodes files.

Also remove alloca stuff since we don't use alloca in gas nowadays.

bfd428bc12 opcodes: tic54x: namespace exported variables 
The tic54x exports some fairly generic variable names that can
conflict with programs that use them, so put proper tic54x_
prefixes on all of them.

12c4b9aad5 tic54x fixes 
A number of the tic54x tests were failing, and I thought it worth
investigating since the target makes use of a lot of hash tables, and
we've just changed gas hash tables.  It turns out none of the gas
failures were due to hashing.

	* config/tc-tic54x.c (stag_add_field_symbols): Don't free "name"
	in case where it isn't copied.
	* config/tc-tic54x.h (LOCAL_LABELS_FB): Undef.
	* testsuite/gas/tic54x/field.d: Dump section contents and symbols
	rather than disassembling.
	* testsuite/gas/tic54x/set.d: Adjust for newer disassembly.

fe0e921f00 PR26513, 629310abec breaks assembling PowerPC Linux kernels 
Inserting with replacement is wrong for some gas hash table uses.
This patch implements an htab_insert that conditionally replaces, and
similarly for str_hash_insert.  str_hash_insert with replace=0 is
roughly equivalent to the older hash_insert, and str_hash_insert with
replace=1 to the older hash_jam, but return values are different.  I
found it useful to know whether the slot was occupied prior to
inserting/replacing.  I've also reinstated the fatal errors on messing
up opcode tables with duplicates.

fd3619828e bfd_section_* macros 
This large patch removes the unnecessary bfd parameter from various
bfd section macros and functions.  The bfd is hardly ever used and if
needed for the bfd_set_section_* or bfd_rename_section functions can
be found via section->owner except for the com, und, abs, and ind
std_section special sections.  Those sections shouldn't be modified
anyway.

The patch also removes various bfd_get_section_<field> macros,
replacing their use with bfd_section_<field>, and adds
bfd_set_section_lma.  I've also fixed a minor bug in gas where
compressed section renaming was done directly rather than calling
bfd_rename_section.  This would have broken bfd_get_section_by_name
and similar functions, but that hardly mattered at such a late stage
in gas processing.

This file was never supposed to be widely used.  The fact that it has
found its way into many gas files led to bugs, typically when code
expecting a symbolS* to point at a struct symbol is presented with a
struct local_symbol.  Also, commit 158184ac9e changed these structs in
2012 but didn't catch all places where symbol bsym was being used to
test for a local_symbol.

	* Makefile.am (HFILES): Delete struc-symbol.h.
	* doc/internals.texi: Delete struc-symbol.h reference and out
	of date local symbol description.
	* struc-symbol.h: Delete.  Move contents to..
	* symbols.c: ..here.
	(symbol_on_chain, symbol_symbolS): New functions.

3d207518c1 tic54x: rename typedef of struct symbol_ 
generic gas code has a struct symbol, and tic54x typedefs a struct to symbol.
This seems at least rather confusing, and it seems like target specific headers
shouldn't  put such generic names in the global namespace preventing other
generic code from using them.

17b9d67d4e make md_parse_option () take a const char * 
This is mostly just adding const in many places, however there are a couple
interesting things.  We need to add casts in tc-s390.c and tc-cris.c because
they have functions that assign to input_line_pointer an argument that
sometimes comes from md_parse_option.  Presumably this is safe because those
targets never pass literals to md_parse_option (), but this code should
probably be improved in the future.  Also xtensa passes the argument to strtoll
which is a rather odd function, it takes a const char * as argument and returns
a pointer into that string as a char * through an out argument, but we can work
around that by adding more variables.

2e57ce7b14 More fallout from "Allow symbol and label names to be enclosed in double quotes" 
Some of the TC_START_LABEL implementations need to adjust the end of
the symbol, when a colon doesn't mean a label definition.  That means
they need access to nul_char both the restore the NUL location (it may
be a quote rather than a colon) and to store the new nul_char.  Others
need adjusting to step over a potential trailing quote.

62ebcb5cbe gas TC_PARSE_CONS_EXPRESSION communication with TC_CONS_FIX_NEW 
A number of targets pass extra information from TC_PARSE_CONS_EXPRESSION
to TC_CONS_FIX_NEW via static variables.  That's OK, but not best
practice.  tc-ppc.c goes further in implementing its own replacement
for cons(), because the generic one doesn't allow relocation modifiers
on constants.  This patch fixes both of these warts.
